Foundation Objects / Foundation Tables  in SuccessFactors
Foundation objects are used to set up data that can be shared across the company, such as Legal Entity, Business Unit etc. …
Foundation objects are sometimes referred to as “foundation tables”. Foundation objects are contained and configured in the Corporate Data Model.
Note: Foundation objects are can be configured individually or can be imported in bulk
Characteristics of Foundation Objects:
·         Foundation objects consist of one or more fields.
·         Each foundation element has a technical ID, called an hris-element-id.
·         Each field within a foundation object also has a technical field ID. Etc …
Legal Entity:

A legal Entity is the highest organization structure. It can belong to only one country. It captures the basic information about the company in the country. It represents a company as registered against country laws. It cannot span across more than one country.  The country in Legal Entity determines the country of the employee for Job Information, Employment Details and Compensation Information.
Configuration:
Foundation objects can be configured in Admin Tools.  Admin Tool can be accessed in two ways (Old Admin tool and New Admin Tool)

Admin -> Company Processes & Cycles -> Employee Files -> Manage Organization, Pay and Job Structures.

 Business Unit:

One Business Unit record represents one operating unit. It is a logical segment of a company representing a specific business function.

Division:

Division is one of the organizational entities; it can have a hierarchical structure using the 'parent' field. One Division can belong to multiple business units.

Department:
Department foundation object stores all the departments of a company for example Human Resources, Finance, Sale etc.

Location:

Location foundation object stores address information of all physical offices for a company. International address formats are supported. One Location belong to One Location Group, Geo Zone and Legal Entity. Business address is defined by country in country specific corporate data model

Location Group:

Grouping of all locations in one group is called Location Group. This is mainly used for EEO reporting in the US
